Conscience of the Nation

Our country’s flag was torn apart

Left in rubble on the capitol floor

With bloodstain hands some members hide

Behind a stance, they could do no more

Shall a trial at the senate steps,

with those, that added to the fire

Heed the warning from the dust

And weed out every single liar

His days though past, still haunt our nation

And killed the bravest men  that fought

To fight for our country’s salvation

And in their deaths we morn their loss

The deepest judgments yet to come

To watch and hope for courage to break

To separate us from the violent throws

Their conscience holds our country’s fate

Summers at Ocean Beach

We’d take the ferry back and forth
Our families then would meet
Off the sandy shores of Fire Island
A white house on Ocean Beach

No TV sets to pass the time
No iPhones back then to take
We leave work and school behind
One month for summer break

A chess board game at the table
We’d play cards and drink iced tea
Walk the boardwalk into town
Or lay out on the beach

Some nights around the fireplace
After dinner making s’mores
We take turns telling ghost stories
Each one scarier than before

A ferry ride away we take
And plan and ride and meet
One month in the summer
On Fire Island in Ocean Beach

Gaslighting

Gaslighting

I see blue and am  told it’s black
In time I'm no longer sure
I walk each path and waiver
Catch myself, like times before
Is the fire hot, is ice cold
Every flower and every tree
Names I thought I've learned
Are not as clear to me
Did I hear those words
So full of love and sweet

Or are they an echo of my own
fall alone and far beneath
I ponder each again, this trial
As I just want it to be easy
A love that last more than a while
One that comforts and appeases
Crazy am I as I I've tried
Hard to hold what wasn't mine
To pulls words, that felt wrong
To stay where I don't belong
Crazy as you can become
To work so hard, but hard alone
Beg and will and cry and plea
To free this insecurity
Blue or black or red or green

I lost myself somewhere between

A Dark Day in America

January 6, 2021 is a day Americans will forever be haunted by. So many thoughts went through my mind when the rioters broke into our Capital Building. My first thought  was pure fear and terror for what may happen to our congressman, senators, policemen and staff working inside. Whether Republican, Independent, or Democratic leader, it didn’t matter. They were there for us, representing our great country and just doing what their constitutional duties required them to do.

My second thought was what brought us here: a country so divided and fed so many lies, that a large percentage truly believe the election was stolen from the President. It started at the top, with the President, even before the votes were counted, claiming  the election was fraudulent. Had it have just been the president, it would not have gone this far and when we look back we are going to look back to the politicians that went along with the president for their political ambitions. We are going to look at the media outlets that also mislead the public with fake allegations of fraud. The truth is, there are always irregularities in elections. The irregularities that took place were small in nature and would not have changed the results in any of the elections.  Make no mistake, the media outlets claiming fraud and the politician going along with it knew this.

Americans  were lied to, repeated by the people we are supposed to be able to trust. We should be able to turned to our leaders for the truth. We should be able to turn on our new  source and be told facts about what has taken place, and not hear opinions and certainly not fake allegations that have no legal merit.

So now the question becomes how to fix our broken country. Even after the riots, we still had some Senators and Republican congressmen object to some of the states certification. At a time, when we could have come together and the truth should have been simple stated, they pressed on with their sham. Those members should face consequences. Whether it’s that  they are forced to resign, face censorship from congress or are voted out in their next run off election, we must remember their actions and punish them.

There are also members that have been going along with the president this whole time and changed their minds after the violence. My first reaction was I was so gratefully they were finally being honest at this point. But looking  back, they added to the fuel, with their words or more often just silence. They are our leaders! Lead us with Truth, or let’s find representative on both sides that will! Aren’t we tired of the division and lies?

The media that was plastering fake news across the airways, they need to be taken off the air. Unfortunately we are at a point where we don’t trust what we hear anymore and that is unacceptable.

Our President should resign. His words, actions and lack of action almost resulted in a more catastrophic situation.

For our future, we must demand better from our politician and News organizations. We must weed out those who are still trying to divide our great country.

We are a great group of loving people across our country. We may not believe in the same policies, but we all want what’s best for America. The best laws and  policies have always come from members of Congress and the  Senate that compromised with the other side.

I pray that from this  darkness, comes a new day ;for our great country where we finally  come together again.

God Bless America!
